What’s Playing at the Movies This Thanksgiving?
The holiday seasons officially begins the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (though it unofficially begins on November 1st.) And after you’re done stuffing your face with turkey and pumpkin pie, maybe you want to catch a movie. So here is a sneak peek at some of the movies opening on Thanksgiving weekend.
The King’s Speech (Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush)
This is an early Oscar favorite (it seems Best Picture and Best Actor are almost a lock) about King George’s VI’s struggle with stammering and how he overcomes it. Nothing says holiday cheer more than people overcoming their hurdles. With a cast as solid as this, I’m positive this film will not disappoint.
Burlesque (Cher, Christina Aguilera)
Yeah… I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I like both ladies well enough but something seems off about the project. Of course, I am so not the target audience. Maybe it’ll be surprisingly good.
Love & Other Drugs (Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathway)
I am really excited about this movie. I think the stars are perfect. It seems like a brainier romantic-comedy than most. While I don’t think this is a very well-made trailer (it is too over-dramatic for a trailer), I can tell there is a very entertaining and hopefully insightful film under the ad.
Faster (Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Carla Gugino)
I guess since there are two woman-oriented films coming out, it’s only fair for the men to have an R-rated revenge actioner starring The Rock. This movie seems exciting enough but I’m only going for the lovely and underrated Carla Gugino.
Tangled (with voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi)
YES! I am so excited for this movie! I love the story of Rapunzel and this revisionist take looks fun, exciting, beautiful and awesome. Like with most kid-targeted flicks, this one looks to be very entertaining for adults as well. I have no doubt that this will be the one to take the box office crown for the weekend.
Of course, there’s always Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1…
What’s your pick this Thanksgiving weekend?
