Badly Drawn Boy appears at Sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church on December 7th, and Peter Hook of Joy Division comes to Voyeur’s Thursday night “Snacks” party on December 2nd, to make the week after Thanksgiving a time to be thankful for for Philadelphia-area music lovers.
Damon Gough, a.k.a. Badly Drawn Boy, is one of England’s most popular alternative music singer/songwriters. A hyper-talented, multi-instrumentalist and story-teller, he is still underrated in the States but ready to come up. First Unitarian Church will be a perfect venue to see him, intimate enough to hear the lyrics and holy enough to “feed the fish.” The Hour of Bewilderbeest is upon us, boys and girls.Â
Peter “don’t call me Pan” Hook was an integral part of one of the most seminal bands of the 80s. As co-founder of Joy Division, Hook (the bass player) is taking the group’s debut album, “Unknown Pleasures” on tour sans Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and, needless to say, Ian Curtis, the late vocalist. Having marked the 30th annivesary of Ian Curtis’ death last May, Hook has been playing venues east and west of the pond in hopes of reviving the great legacy of 1980s’ college rock.
Joy unite, don’t divide it, folks. It won’t tear us apart.Â
