Wooli Me Natural Hair Expo Los Angeles, November 28
When I recently joined the Natural Haircare Los Angeles group I learned about the Wooli Me Natural Hair Expo.  News of this after Thanksgiving day weekend event gave me more excitement than Black Friday Shopping and Cyber Monday deals combined.  The lyrics to soul singer India Arie’s I Am Not My Hair perfectly describe my feelings right now.  Even though I am, in fact, not my hair I am interested in learning about how to better care for it.  I’m also up for any discussion about how not to be defined by it.
On Sunday November 28, 2010 the Carson Community Center will host  The 2nd Annual Wooli Me Expo/Conference. The Wooli Me expo is an informative and entertaining event that boldly welcomes women to join the Natural Hair Movement.  Denise V. Estelle, founder and CEO of Wooli Me is on a mission to redefine beauty standards that have historically excluded women who choose to wear their hair naturally.  The beautiful Ms. Estelle has worn her hair naturally for the past five years.  She wants other women to embrace their hair as a gift from God and go natural as well.
Going natural is about freedom from chemicals, hot styling tools, and unreasonable expectations. Â Gaining freedom from those traps is a transition that requires guidance, especially for women concerned with maintaining the health of their natural hair. Â It is also important to consider the psychological impact of believing that natural hair is a curse rather than a crown and glory. Â The Wooli Me Expo is a one stop event for valuable information, enlightening discussion, and for natural hair care product shopping. Â Special guest speakers will include:
- Joanne Cornwell, originator of Sisterlocks
- Jan Robinson, Founder Black Women for Wellness
- Dr Rosie Milligan, Founder Black Writers on Tour
- Many more
The Wooli Me expo will also feature give aways, celebrities, spoken word, a fashion show and photo ops with the stars of the new web soap opera, AHSHE. Â The event will address the mind, body, and spirit and should not be missed. Â I know I’ll be in my car singing “I am not my hair” all the way there.
