Thinking of where to see Christmas lights in Seattle this 2010 holiday season? Of course you are. Now that Thanksgiving is over, our thoughts turn to Christmas and one of the fun activities for the season is to go see Seattle Christmas lights displays. There are several options, free and for-fee, for you to see Christmas lights and here are some of the best:
Candy Cane Lane in Ravenna
Candy Cane Lane is one of the better Christmas light displays in the city, but it can get really busy the closer we get to Dec 25, so try to go earlier if you can. This is a small neighborhood loop accessible from Ravenna Blvd., where they’ve been putting on the display since 1941. You can walk or drive beginning mid December. See them from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., or until midnight on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Olympic Manor Neighborhood
Olympic Manor neighborhood in Seattle (Ballard/Crown Hill) is another fun place to go in Seattle for Christmas lights. It’s a lot bigger than Candy Cane Lane, so the crowds are spread out more. You can enter the neighborhood off NW 85th Street and 23rd Ave NW.
Queen Anne Hill & Kerry Park Viewpoint
Besides all the great old houses lit up on Queen Anne hill, you can also go to Kerry Park for a view of the lighted tree on the top of the Space Needle. Address: 211 W. Highland Dr. Seattle, WA.
Garden d’Lights at Bellevue Botanical Garden
This public display of Christmas lights is one of the best in the entire metro area Features a winter garden decorated with thousands of glittering lights created by volunteers, music and lights that trace the diversity of Christmas traditions. Located at 12001 Main St., Bellevue. www.bellevuebotanical.org). New for this year is an attempt to control crowds with a reservation system and a fee for the most popular nights. Attendance is limited to 5,000 people per night. Go to http://www.gardendlights.org/ to make your reservation or purchase a ticket.
November 27, 2010 through January 1, 2011
5:00pm to 10:00pm Every Evening Including Holidays (last entry at 9:30pm)
Zoolights at the Port Defiance Zoo
The Zoo comes aglow with more than a half-million lights. Sip hot cocoa while you explore seas of dazzling lights and breathtaking displays of ice-skating puffins, a preying eagle, tiger cubs, the Narrows Bridges and the massive flame tree. Warm up with the sharks in the steamy South Pacific Aquarium, experience a ride on a camel, take a turn on an antique carousel and so much more.
When: 5-9 p.m. Nov. 26, 2010 – Jan. 2, 2011 (Zoolights is open every night except Dec. 24.) More info and tickets info here.
The Helmstetler Family Christmas Spectacular in West Seattle
Not too many family Christmas lights displays have their own website, but this one does. Go to http://westseattlelights.com/ to see a schedule and details about this Seattle Christmas Light…Spectacular.
This coming year we are planning some exciting new features for the Helmstetler Family Christmas Spectacular. First is our website, where you can find all sorts of information such as a daily schedule, our list of songs and when they will play, a map with directions and the thing that we are most excited about will be the opportunity for our caring West Seattle Neighbors to contribute to several different charities of your choice. One of the charities is our own West Seattle Food Bank…so if you are able, please bring a donation.
