For the sixth year, Downtown BID brings the Downtown Holiday Market. Located near the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, this medley of artisans, crafters and food vendors is the closest you will get to a traditional Weihnachtsmärkt.

Open daily from December 3 – 23, this market brings a wonderful mix of vendors offering hundreds of items, making it a great place to shop around for gifts. Add to that, live entertainment and food vendors and you could easily spend a few hours wandering through the exhibitors.

Unfortunately, no gluhwein to be found but whet your palate at the one of these restaurants within walking distance:

Zola – So many wines and beers to choose from it will make your head spin.

Poste – Best priced wine list I have come across.

District Chophouse – Your best bet for signature beers; it is like a nicer TGIFriday.

Cafe Atlantico – One of the best bars in Penn Quarter – The best Sidecar I have ever had.
