New Restaurant Openings and Closings in the D.C. Area

Out with the old, and in with the new!  The Eye Street Elephant & Castle has some new competition, as the new Cities Restaurant debuts across the street today!  Unfamiliar with Cities?  It used to be a staple in Adams Morgan at 2424 18th Street (formerly Leftbank lounge).  It is a restaurant/lounge with a contemporary, modern feel that showcases different foods from select cities.  To keep it interesting, new cities will be selected every 4 months, and updates to the menu will be made based on these new cities (think Chorizo al vino and Hot and Sour Soup).  For those of you less adventurous, American classics such as, Mac N Cheese and Strip Steak with a twice baked potato will be featured year-round.  Cities opens today at 919 19th Street, NW.

Next to enter the D.C. scene is Top Chef’s Mike Isabella.  The New Jersey native is slated to open Graffiato at 707 Sixth Street, NW in the Spring of 2011.  The former executive chef of Zaytinya will open an Italian restaurant serving pizza, pasta, small plates, and wine from all over the U.S.  In the meantime, you can catch Isabella on Top Chef All-Stars.

As for Northern Virginia, you’ve got some action as well.  Unfortunately, my beloved Sette Bello on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington has closed and will be replaced by American Tap Room.  You can view the Bethesda and Reston menus and beer lists for what to expect.  If you’re not too excited about that, maybe CAVA Restaurant‘s Mediterranean cuisine will impress.  This Greek mezze, wine bar and martini lounge is eyeing to open in Spring 2011 in Clarendon.

Honorable Mentions:

P.J. Clarks – Open – 1600 K Street (formerly Olives)

Hill Country BBQ – Spring 2011 – 7th and D Streets (across from Oyamel)

Rustico – Open – 4075 Wilson Boulevard, Ballston
