Cataclysm: World of WarCraft’s New Expansion Begins

Cataclysm, World of WarCraft's new expansion.

Many diehard fans of WOW braved the midnight chill Tuesday, Dec. 7th to get their hands on Cataclysm, the latest expansion for World of WarCraft.  Other players simply downloaded the expansion online to avoid the all that inconvenience. Beginning at midnight, most Wow fans were able to play Cataclysm live.  Unfortunately for some, there were complaints of logon delays and servers not being updated.  Considering the number of people accessing the game, the delays were minimal and the problems quickly resolved.  The game is officially on!

If you are a WOW fanatic, then you know all about Cataclysm.  You have watched your favorite haunts decimated by Deathwing the Destroyer (evil dragon) over the last few weeks.   One of the most anticipated changes is the addition of 2 new races, Goblins and Worgen.  There is also a new underwater world, Deepholm, added to the game.  For a detailed list of changes, click here.

It should be fairly easy to pick out WOW fanatics today:

  • Look for people with that “haggard look” from a long night of questing.
  • Anyone not at work today is automatically suspect: They probably started at 12 AM, and are still at it as we speak.

*  Parents – you may want to check up on your teenagers today.  The rumor flying around chat is that many teens will not be heading to school today in order to play Cataclysm.  I found my own son up before 4 this morning to check out the new changes.
