Guess what? Dave Mustaine does not want Megadeth to be on Roadrunner Records anymore — at least not after this next record they owe the label comes out. Dave’s reached that point so many other Roadrunner artists have hit in the past: The Honeymoon’s over and he’s seen the light.
Mustaine tells New Zealand’s 3 News a new Megadeth album is on the way, but he doesn’t want to re-up with Roadrunner for this next disc.
“We’re getting ready to start the next Megadeth record in January and the funny thing is my manager is telling me now how Roadrunner is going out of their way now to try and give me this new huge deal, and I just don’t want it. I don’t want it.” Oh Dave, do tell! You mean, the Roadrunner situation did not work out like you thought it would? Feel like they are not doing enough to promote the new shit? Where have I heard these complaints before?
“The treatment’s been terrible over the years, and I just don’t want it,” says Dave. “I would rather retire than continue to play like that. Either we’re gonna release [future recordings] digitally [on our own] or [see] what happens next. W’’ve got this last record [that we owe to] Roadrunner [as part of our current contract]; it’s gonna be a great record ‘cause the songs are really, really good. ‘Cause I don’t want my side of the bargain to be tainted — I wanna be a gentleman and be respectful and deliver my side of the deal, whether or not the other party has or not.”
