Floridian metallers We Are Defiance were involved in a serious van accident over the weekend, which sent their frontman to the hospital for a spell. According to the band’s online posts, the band flipped their ride after hitting a patch of black ice in Kentucky.
Most of the band walked away with minor bumps and bruises, but singer Brian Calzini (pictured from his hospital bed, giving the universal sign for “I’m OK”) was not as lucky.
Dude was extracted from the van by rescue personnel who may or may not have used the jaws of life. He was taken to the hospital and received 15 stiches after undergoing minor surgery.
“To be put through one of the scariest moments in my life and the worst pain I’ve ever experienced, it’s amazing to see how much support I have from AMAZING friends, family and fans,” says Calzini (which sounds like it should be some sort of Italian delicacy) in a statement. “Of course there’s haters out there saying ‘we got what we deserved,’ but last night I realized how short life can be and how easy it can be taken away from you in a blink of an eye. People who waste their lives being so pissed all the time for no good reason no longer make me mad but now make me sad. I feel bad for those people, I hope one day they wake up realized life is too short for all that bullshit. The love and support me and my band have outweighs the negative comments a few haters have. My life almost ended last night so I refuse waste any more of my time on negative people. I wanna make the best of this life I have and continue to travel the world playing music and meeting/making new friends.”
