Well that’s whack! I thought we’d be getting a bunch of dates, but instead, we get just one: April 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
On that date, The Big Four of thrash — Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax — will share a stage in the states. But will there be more dates down the line? Let’s fucking hope. Or not. Maybe it’s too late to still care about this nonsense. Is it too little, too late? As one friend put it, “None of these old fags have done anything relevant in 20 years. Retire and age as gracefully as once-great middle-aged buttdarts can.”
Said Metallica of the Big Four’s big day: “You’ve probably heard us all say it…the vibe was just so incredible at last year’s ‘Big Four’ shows that we can’t stop now! So we’re finally bringing the love to our home turf on April 23, 2011 (yes, the more observant of you will note that this is the same spot where the Coachella festival takes place the weekend before).
“It’s true — this is indeed the only scheduled stop in America this go around, so we’re hoping that you can head West to join us,” the band added. And what if we can’t? How dare you blow off the East Coast! Jerks.
Meanwhile, another round of Big Four shows is being prepped for Europe this summer. Europe has had plenty of chances to see the Big Four — why do you continue to deprive the U.S.?
