Looks Like Devin Townsend Snagged Opeth Singer For LP
When I woke up this morning, I hopped on Facebook and headed for Devin Townsend’s page. I wanted to see if there was anything new going on with that free EP that was supposed to be out Wednesday. But alas, there was no new info.
However, there was something perhaps more interesting on Dev’s Facebook than I was ready for. Devin posted two new Facebook messages since yesterday: “Thanks Mikael” and “Thanks Tommy.”
I immediately thought back to my interview with Devin last fall, during which he said he had a few parts on his forthcoming Deconstruction LP set aside for Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt, and I almost came in my pants. Did it happen? Could it be?
That is a collaboration I have been waiting for since before 9/11. I just hope at the end of the day, it turns out it is Mikael Åkerfeldt, I will overlook the free EP delay. I mean, who else could he be referring to, right? Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquility? Let’s hope not.
The “Tommy” is a little more mysterious. I am hoping he’s referring to Tommy Rogers from Between The Buried and Me, because Tommy can sing and Devin probably knows that. Tommy’s participation would just make this Deconstruction album the best thing since…well, Addiction. But there are so many Tommys. Maybe it’s Waits, maybe — but probably not — it’s Vext. Lee Jones? I mean, so many Tommys. We will just have to wait until Devin gives us the goods.
Last time Devin thanked someone, it was Ihsahn. And Ihsahn has confirmed he has lent vocals to the album. Can. Not. Wait.
