Yesterday, we reported — based on a press release from Boris’ publicist — that the band would be releasing two records on the same day this spring. After all, a press release was sent around saying that Boris would, and that one of the album’s would be called Heavy Rocks, the title of an earlier release from the band. But now, Boris’ label is saying “What you talkin’ ‘bout Willis?”
“Contrary to previous reports, Southern Lord Recordings will not be releasing a new album by Boris entitled Heavy Rocks,” says the label in a statement today. “Southern Lord released Boris’ Heavy Rock Hits, Volumes 1-3 as a 7″ vinyl series/and digital download in 2009.”
If you can’t trust a band’s publicist, then who the hell can you trust? Clearly, there’s a disconnect somewhere.
Gun Shy Assassin reached out to said publicist, who did “not know the story behind why Southern Lord is not releasing the new Heavy Rocks album.” That seems to imply — to me — that there is an album on the way from the band called Heavy Rocks, and that maybe it’s just that Southern Lord won’t be putting it out. But does this mean that the label is issuing Attention Please?
I don’t know what the hell is going on here. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what actually happens this spring. Will it be one record, two, or…gasp…none?
