This, according to reports out of the United Kingdom. We sort of knew this was possible, given the 52-year-old admitted bilking taxpayers out of more than $72,000, and claimed a range of benefits and tax handouts, by stating he was in no condition to work between 2002 and 2008. But now, it’s official.
Paul “Bag-a-donuts” Di’Anno, the former lead singer of iconic metal outfit Iron Maiden, is behind bars.
Di’Anno was sent to jail today after being exposed for falsely filing for and collecting government benefits in the U.K. Di’Anno claimed he suffered from Sciatica, or nerve damage in his back, which had prevented him from working. That claim was bullshit.
Unfortunately for Di’Anno, investigators from the Department of Work and Pensions — working on an anonymous tip that the dude was still singing — launched an investigation and unearthed YouTube videos of the dude singing. The rocker’s own web site also featured pictures of Di’Anno “energetically leaping around on stage, singing to fans around the world.”
Di’Anno has been sentenced to nine months, and was told he would serve at least four-and-a-half months of the sentence behind bars before being released on conditional bail.
Doesn’t Paul look like a mobster? From that picture, you wouldn’t guess dude just lied on some forms.
