Jane’s Addiction Annoyed The Piss Out Of Duff
I’ve always assumed that the root of all of Jane’s Addiction’s problems as a band — the break-ups, the tension — could be traced to one thing: Dave Navarro and Perry Farrell seem like super annoying dudes to have to deal with.
Guess what? I was right. Farrell tells Rolling Stone that Jane’s probably “annoyed” former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, who was in the band for all of six months.
“He wasn’t really comfortable hanging with us. We thought it was a good idea, but it ended up that we annoyed him,” said Perry, adding that the band went into “a little bit of a tailspin” after Duff jumped ship.
“Some of the guys in the group said, screw it — they didn’t want to use any of the material we had written with Duff because they were so pissed off. I said, ‘Don’t be mad at the material, because we have some good things there.’”
McKagan replaced original bassist Eric Avery, who reunited with the band in 2008 for the first time since its initial break-up in 1991, and left in 2009. The band’s forthcoming album, The Great Escape Artist, will be in stores this summer.
Meanwhile, Jane’s Addiction have been confirmed for the Gathering of the Vibes festival, set to take place from July 21 to July 24 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
