You may remember the long-titled book we have recommended before: Beyond Boundaries: The New Neuroscience of Connecting Brains with Machines—and How It Will Change Our Lives written by Miguel Nicolelis, neuroscientist and founder of the Duke University Center for Bioengineering who has been named one of the twenty most influential scientists in the world by “Scientific American”.
Professor Miguel Nicolelis’ work has uncovered a new and controversial method for capturing brain function. It is paving the way for a cure for Parkinson’s disease, new ways of treating paralysis, and using brainwaves to control everything from transportation to manufacturing.
In his book Mr. Nicolelis shares the results of his research on how the brain is creating thought and the human sense of self – and how the computers could augment it. The book was published on March 15 2011, feel free to order it from Neurogadget’s Amazon Store. 🙂
Or if you’d prefer to first take an insight of the book, you can find preview pages on its official website:
Professor Miguel Nicolelis is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he received his M.D. and Ph.D. in neurophysiology from the University of Sao Paulo. He answered questions about his research on brain-machine interfaces during a live webcast interview March 18, 2011. You can watch the interview below:
Dr. Nicolelis’ research has been highlighted in MIT Review’s Top 10 Emerging Technologies. He was named one of Scientific American’s Top 50 Technology Leaders in America in 2004 and has twice received the DARPA Award for Sustained Excellence by a Performer.
