Some of you blasted me not too long ago after I called Cannabis Corpse “gimmick metal” and maybe that was too harsh of me. The band’s music is tight, and there are plenty of bands who have taken the gimmick too far. Take Gwar, for instance.
Anyways, I do like Cannabis Corpse, who have debuted a new song called “Blame It On Bud” over at Brooklynvegan.com. The song comes from Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise, the marijuana-loving death metal band’s new album, which has been slated for a July 12 release through Tankcrimes.
The band — featuring the brotherly duo of Philip “Landphil” Hall from Municipal Waste on bass and Josh “HallHammer” Hall on drums — is working again with Tankcrimes, which issued the group’s The Weeding EP back in 2009.
From a press release for the new disc: “Tongue-in-cotton-mouthed-cheek titles like ‘Lunatic of Pot’s Creation’ and ‘Immortal Pipes’ keep the party rolling, but don’t be fooled: Cannabis Corpse is not a joke band. Sure, they’ll fire up a bowl and chug a beer, but then they’ll rip your face off with a brutal old-school death metal assault, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the seeds of the genre first began to grow.”
The new album was mixed by Hate Eternal’s Erik Rutan at Mana Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West Side Music.
