TMZ.com is reporting that the body of former Warrant frontman Jani Lane was found Thursday night (August 11) inside a Los Angeles-area hotel — just like Paul Gray! Lane, who battled his demons and admitted to having a drinking problem, was 47 years old.
Lane was pronounced dead by Fire Department personnel who responded to a call shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the Comfort Inn in the 20100 block of Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, California.
The cause of death has not been determined, and the case has been turned over to the Los Angeles county coroner’s office, according to LAPD officer Sara Faden. Lane was married three times and is survived by a wife and four children.
According to Blabbermouth, who didn’t credit us with a scoop yesterday (dick), Lane participated in a taping of an upcoming episode of the “That Metal Show” on July 23, alongside Stryper’s Michael Sweet and Faster Pussycat’s Taime Downe. The program featuring Lane is scheduled to air on October 1 on VH1 Classic.
The metal world responded immediately to his passing. Sweet said: “My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Jani Lane. Had the pleasure of meeting him on ‘That Metal Show’ and he was a great guy.”
Slash wrote, “Just heard about Jani Lane. What a shame. RIP man.”
Glenn Hughes Tweeted “[Rest in peace] Jani Lane… another one lost… We must remember that the unlucky ones who lose their life to alcohol and drugs, are those that could not completely surrender. Sad day.”
My take? Oh well. It was bound to happen. Still, a part of me is sad to think that the dude responsible for the lyrics to “Cherry Pie” is gone. A piece of my childhood is gone.
