A Dash of Fashion: New Footwear Collections From Rachel Roy & Halle Berry

Shoe lovers everywhere can now celebrate the debut of new footwear collections from California-born designer Rachel Roy, and Oscar-winning actress and red carpet regular Halle Berry.

Roy, whose luxury designs can be found at, is taking her footwear inspiration from mentor, Manolo Blahnik.  Roy’s dresses have been worn on the red carpet and at publicity events by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum.  Stars will most certainly flock to Roy’s latest project which will include a high end line of flats and pumps ranging in price from $195 – $325, according to a recent report by WWD.

Roy’s past collaboration with Blahnik has been most recently seen in shows at New York Fashion Week, where she shared her point of view as a youthful and fresh force in fashion with bright colors, a neon palette, and popular patterns like animal print, polka dots, and gingham. She explains, “Designer shoes are one of the categories I’ve wanted to do but I was unwilling to do it until I felt I could really do it right.”

In addition to Roy’s eponymous label, Macy’s shoppers already have access to her diffusion apparel and accessories collection aptly called RACHEL Rachel Roy, which currently includes flats and pumps which cost up to $120.00.

Secondly, Halle Berry is launching her very first footwear collection for the nearly 100-year-old German retail chain, Deichmann, on March 5th. Berry’s 40-piece collection will be called “5th Avenue by Halle Berry,” and definitely qualifies as affordable with prices starting at € 29.99.  The downside to this collection is that it will only be available in 21 European countries, and not be seen stateside.  This was also the case when former supermodel Cindy Crawford also designed shoes for Deichmann.

Berry has reportedly explained in a recent press release, “The shoes can easily be worn by every woman.  They are stylish, yet reasonably priced, that is what my collection is all about.”

Perhaps the currently troubled actress, who is in the middle of legal disputes her daughter’s father, model Gabriel Aubrey, knows what she’s doing when it comes to fashion since she’s been a staple of style on the red carpet for years.  Not to mention the success of her signature fragrance called Halle by Halle Berry, which debuted in 2009.

What do you think of these two different footwear lines?  Do you agree that Roy will find success since she’s already such an established designer?  Would you wear Halle Berry’s shoes?
