One year ago, Ascential Dance Colorado and Denver based musicians, the Gristle Gals, wowed Colorado audiences with the performance of The Con: a Steamphunk Reverie. The Con was a production masterpiece that would start a trend of sound and stage collaborations throughout Colorado. Lucky for everyone who saw it the first time and for the unfortunate group of people who missed it the first time, Ascential Dance has been in the studio figuring out how to do it again.  On March 18 and March 25, Ascential Dance returns to the Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret stage for the world premiere of, The Time of the Preacher.
The Time of the Preacher is set entirely to the songs from Willie Nelson’s 1975 concept album, Red Headed Stranger. The inspiration for Nelson’s album came after a visit to Colorado. It tells the story of a fugitive minister who, after finding his wife in an adulterous affair, kills her and her lover. Ascential Dance has reworked this story into a production glittered with innovative and original costumes, creative storytelling, and of course, the technical and artistic virtuosity that audiences have come to expect.
Ascential Dance Theater Colorado, under the artistic direction of Jen Fagan Archer, is a company of accomplished and talented dancers with an affinity for the retelling of history through the arts. Through the company and the dance school, Ascential Dance aims to engage community, promote arts education and preservation, and collaborate with artists of other disciplines to form a complete artistic experience for both the performer and the audience. The Time of the Preacher also features the accompaniment of live and local musicians, Jimmy Curtis, Wilson Harwood, and Rainer Franke.
