At The Drive-In: No New Album Forthcoming

At the Drive-In
And I’m kind of fine with that.

I don’t think a new At The Drive-In record would live up to the glory and majesty of the band’s first efforts. I mean, like, take the Mars Volta, for instance. Those first two records were perfect. The subsequent albums? Meh — not as good.

At The Drive-In’s vocalist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez told Kerrang! magazine that, “No, no, no. At The Drive-In is more of a nostalgia thing — it’s songs we wrote when we were all in our 20s and we’re doing a couple of shows.”

Rodriguez-Lopez also tells NME that the reunion was fueled, in part, by the big payday the band’s getting. Seriously. I love the honesty.

“We’re not getting any younger and there’s been an offer of money every year,” says Omar. “You can’t avoid that. You’d be a fool and a politician to pretend that wasn’t part of it.”

Omar and Cedric are probably only doing it so the other dudes — the Sparta dudes — can pay their mortgages off.
