"Let's Pretend We're Famous" Comes to the Plays & Players Theatre
If you’re a Philadelphian who is into theater, then the names Tony Braithwaite and Jennifer Childs are probably familiar to you. This dynamic duo has been working with each other since 2000, and “Let’s Pretend We’re Famous” is their latest endeavor (in fact, they just wrapped “Let’s Pretend We’re Married” at the Act II Playhouse in Ambler).
“Let’s Pretend We’re Famous” involves original comedy and classic songs, including songs like Everything’s Coming Up Roses (“in a way Mama Rose could have never imagined”), Fame, MacArthur Park, Space Oddity, and Swinging on a Star, just to name a few. Audiences can also look forward to “humorous dissections of American celebrity.”
“[T]he further we got into the world of American celebrity, the more we discovered that it’s all about trying to embellish an idea that’s already good, but all the stuff you put on top of it takes it to the world of the ridiculous, hilarious, and even sublime,” said Childs. “Liberace without jewels and furs is an extraordinary pianist, but with the costume, he’s a superstar. A Kardashian without jewels and furs, however, is just a Kardashian—and that’s where the comedy starts!”
“Let’s Pretend We’re Famous” can been see at the Plays & Players Theatre, and is produced by 1812 Productions. The show will run from March 6th to March 25th, 2012. The theater is located at 1714 Delancey Street, in Center City Philadelphia. It opens on March 7th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are priced at just $20 to $36, and can be purchased by calling 215-592-9560 or by visiting www.1812productions.org.
