First Annual Science Fiction Film Festival At Seattle's Cinerama

0

Seattle science fiction and film fans have a reason to rejoice as our very own Cinerama presents The First Annual Science Fiction Film Festival. The fest runs April 19 through May 2, and promises to be just as incredible as it sounds.

The line up is bolstered by lynchpins like screenings of Fritz Lang’s Expressionist classic Metropolis with the Massachusetts-based Alloy Orchestra, a new 70mm print of Stanley Kubrick’s mind-bender 2001: A Space Odyssey, and new 35mm print of War of the Worlds.

While those three are the big hitters, the rest of the program might be even better. Ranging from campy classics (Barbarella, Flash Gordon), to post-apocalyptic entries (Mad Max, The Road Warrior), to new favorites (The Matrix), there is something for everyone. Cinerama has put together a greatest hits list of the genre.

Check out the rest of the curriculum: Brazil, A Clockwork Orange, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Dune, E.T., Forbidden Planet, Ghostbusters in 70mm, The Matrix, Omega Man, Planet of the Apes, Silent Running, Solaris, Soylent Green, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn in 70mm, Terminator, Terminator 2 in 70mm, and Tron in 70mm.

Families, Trekkies, nerds of all persuasions, this is like every sci-fi film you’ve ever wanted to see on Cinerama’s massive screen. I’m particularly excited for the Charlton Heston portion of the program with Soylent Green, Omega Man, and Planet of the Apes. Too bad they’re not showing them together, that would be a night to remember indeed. Regardless of the particulars of your sci-fi leanings, The First Annual Science Fiction Film Festival promises an epic two weeks of movie watching.
