Grammy nominated, Folk singer and Colorado native Katie Herzig is in the middle of a national tour. She’s performed her music in Oregon, Texas, in February, she made a stop at Boulder’s Fox Theater and this summer she’ll be performing in Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music Festival. On May 16, Denver audiences will finally get to see exactly what it is about Katie Herzig’s music the rest of the country loves so much. Herzig’s The Waking Sleep tour will be traveling through the Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO.
Herzig’s newest album was released last September. By either design, coincidence, or both, the album is thematically different from her previous works. It’s more reflective and musicalises the questions she had about the world, society, and her role in both. While the search for deeper meaning and identity has been in all of her songs and albums, she confesses that previous works have been about relationships. But when The Waking Sleep came around, she founder self in a different place and she felt the need to create music from that place. “Every album is a reflection of where you are,†she says, “and this was where I was. I was less concerned with finding a relationship and I just wanted to find myself.â€
When asked which of her songs she’s most looking forward to performing. She chuckles and syas she doesn’t know. Her favorite song, like her, seems to be in a constant state of change. However, no matter the phase or place, she says she always loves to perform, “Wish You Well.†Herzig is excited to be back in Colorado, where there is a blend of friends, family, old fans, as well as new ones. “Home shows always feel good. I’m looking forward to it.â€
