New Dinosaur Jr. Track 'Watch the Corners'

Twenty-eight years after J Mascis formed Dinosaur Jr. with Lou Barlow and Murph they have a new record that is set to be released on September 18th. After an eight year hiatus the band reunited in 2005 to play some shows to promote the re-issue of their  first three albums. The tour went well and the band decided to work on a new record. Beyond was released in 2007 to rave reviews, Pitchfork gave the album an 8.4 rating. In 2009 the trio released another record entitled Farm, which was once again positively received. The group is known for their loud, distorted guitars, heavy drum rhythms, and J’s droning vocal style.

Mascis recently sat down with Rolling Stone and discussed the past as well as the present. In regard to the new record, I Bet On Sky, he explains “I guess on this record, I wasn’t as worried if we could play the songs live,[…] I guess that’s what’s kind of different about this album: I just did what I felt would sound good.” Along with the interview, the first taste of the new record was premiered. “Watch The Corners” has a driving riff that draws you in and segues perfectly into Mascis’ laid back vocal presentation. The song is very easy to listen to and has a lighthearted, bright quality to it that will have you hitting repeat incessantly. Fittingly, the song concludes with a searing guitar solo that pays homage to  their metal influences. Overall, it is a great track and has me marking my calendar in preparation for the album release.

The band is currently on tour and will rock MusicFestNW on September 8th in Portland, and Neumos on October 12th in Seattle.
