New EMP Exhibit Highlights Jim Marshall's Photos of The Rolling Stones
Legendary music photographer Jim Marshall was best known for his iconic and intimate images of rock stars, particularly those of Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. Â On July 14, some of Marshall’s best known images of the Rolling Stones’ 1972 tour went on display at the EMP and will be shown until January 6, 2013. Â Among the many photos part of this collection are action shots of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, as well as incredibly intimate offstage portraits. Â Some of these images, particularly those from the Exile on Main St. Tour, have never before been seen by the public.
The debut of Marshall’s exhibit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones’ existence, and the 40th anniversary of their iconic tour. Â In addition to Marshall’s gallery, a book of his 1972 tour with the Rolling Stones has also been released, including a foreword written by Keith Richards.
