Melvins Frontman Talks About Covers Project, Fantômas
The man — and hair — behind the Melvins has spoken. What did Buzz Osbourne speak about during a recent interview? A lot, actually.
But what really tickled my pickle was his revelation that the band’s been working on some covers with a number of different musicians.
“I don’t want to tell yet, because we’re not done with them yet,” says Buzz. “We’re going to do a compilation, and then we’re going to put out single records, 12-inches. A whole bunch of tribute records that we’re doing, lots of people we like.”
Osbourne says the band’s been collaborating with Neurosis’ Scott Kelly on Venom covers and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys on Roxy Music tunes. There’s also some Queen covers in the works featuring Caleb Bird of Tweak Bird.
Alas, Fantômas are not working on new material.
“No way that anything like that has happened. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. But right now, no, that’s not happening.”
“We haven’t been in a studio since 2003. Patton’s project. If he wants to do it, I’ll work around it. His schedule. We haven’t done a live show since 2008. Honestly, I have no idea.”
I repeat: Bummer.
