Guest Column: Three Bands You May Not Know But Should By Abominant's Mike May
We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.
The topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we are excited to continue this ongoing series with an entry written by Mike May from Abominant, whose new album can be ordered here.
Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult
Great female-fronted black metal band from Germany. They have five albums out including 2013’s Necrovision. Every album is worth a spin.
Lots of great riffs and evil atmosphere, with hints of Tsjuder, prime Gorgoroth, and some death metal leanings.
Aside from having a questionable and confusing name, they are probably my current favorite black metal band besides Darkthrone.
Great Chicago Old school death metal 3 piece with 2 albums including the freshly minted Path to Holocaust.
Killer band, killer songs, killer live shows, great guys…just all around home run here.
Trend-free thrashing death metal with nods to faster Asphyx, old Sodom, and obvious Frost/Hellhammer origins.
If your thing in under-the-radar wickedness like Gravehill, Sathanas, Ares Kingdom and the like, check ’em out NOW!
Aeons of Eclipse
Although tragically now defunct, this Kentucky Death metal prodigy did just release their final disc The Parasite a week ago.
Stunningly well-written and amazingly produced, its a shame they couldn’t keep this steamroller going.
Very technical, without being annoying, yet still very aware of the song itself, this will be a treat for fans of punishing death metal bands like Monstrosity, Malevolent Creation, Zyklon and Behemoth.
I’m still reeling about how much this thing blew my head off.
