You know, a few years ago, before Decibel stole the idea (which was supplied to their writer by a publicist who used to work at Relapse), I was working on a book focusing on the mothers of metal musicians.
Mostly, I wanted to do the book to further my career, but also, because I wanted to speak with the mother of George Fisher. I wanted to ask her if she even imagined, holding her baby son in her arms, that he’d ever answer to the name “Corpsegrinder” or have a neck thicker than his torso.
But, it didn’t happen. The book wasn’t picked up as the idea was already in play as a column in the mag. That blows.
Anyways, Corpsegrinder is in a side project with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, and when the KsE were in town last week for the Lamb of God show at Roseland, one of the dudes from Metal Injection caught up with him.
This unnamed side project also boasts ex-The Black Dahlia Murder drummer Shannon Lucas.
“I just tracked a bunch of overdub guitars when I was home and I had to stop because I’m [on tour],” says Adam D.
“It looks like George is going to come up in December to do some vocals. There is no real timeline on it. We’re just working on it whenever we can. When we’re done with it, we’re done with it.”
He discussed the project even further.
“To be honest with you, [Corpsegrinder has] always been one of my favorite singers. I just love the way sound comes out of his big throat. When we toured with them on Mayhem Fest, that’s when I started talking to him and drinking with him. And I said, ‘Dude, what if I were to write a record for you? Would you sing on it?’ and he’s just like ‘Yup!’ and then I said ‘Ok, stand by, I’ll send you some tracks in a couple of months’ and then I just wrote the record.”
Sometimes, greatness is just as simple as a silly idea. But most of my silly ideas lead to tragedy. Sucks.
