So, Last Night’s Overkill, Kreator Show Was The Tits

Last night, I braved the frigid night air to hit up this new venue in New York called Stage 48, which is a fucking hike from any sort of public transportation, and tighter than a nun inside. It was my first time there, and I thought the place was fucking bullshit. I’ll try to avoid ever returning, if I can.

But it was a momentous evening. I got to hang with Jos. von Weinerhaus, some of the Loudwire dudes, and witnessed Overkill and Kreator destroy that shitbox of a club.

Despite meeting a pretty girl in line only to see her run off with some dude who looked like Brendan Fraser from “Encino Man,” and having a 20-something twit of a girl essentially tell me I was too old for all things, I had a great time seeing Overkill.

The band closed the show, and, as with the times when I had seen them before, Overkill leveled the place.

They started off with “Deny the Cross,” then tackled “Bring Me The Night” and had the crowd pumping their fists during “Electric Rattlesnake.”

I was in thrash heaven, folks. Just nodding my head to the impressive drums and bass while singing along with Blitz, who looks like a white Michael Jackson in person.

Dude’s had work done. And if he hasn’t, he sure looks like he has.

The highlights of the night, for me, were “Hammerhead,” “Ironbound,” “Necroshine,” and of course, the closer, “Fuck You.” But before Overkill came out to fuck us all up with some knowledge, Kreator took the stage, and got us all in the proper mood. I totally missed Warbringer, but that was intentional.

It was my first time seeing Kreator, and thoroughly enjoyed the set. I kept back quite a ways from the stage; that’s my new place to stand at shows, in the waaaay back.

But fuck, did they deliver a solid set! From the first note of “Phantom Antichrist” through tunes like “Pleasure to Kill,” “Riot of Violence,” and “Phobia” to the last notes of “Tormentor,” Kreator sounded flawless, and kept me in the moment.

I know this was one of the tour’s final stops, so it’d be pointless to tell you to attend. But I can say this: If Overkill and Kreator have come to your town recently, and you skipped over it, you fucked up, bra.
