Def Leppard Not Taking Legal Action Against Boy Band

Up and until this past Saturday, I had somehow managed to never hear a single note of One Direction’s music — a feat I was most proud of. But on Saturday, I was at a family function and all the little kids in our kith put one of the band’s videos, and I wept for the future.

Today, I listened to One Direction yet again. That’s twice in less than a week. I hope this doesn’t become a thing.

Today, I listened to the band to see if they had, indeed, plagiarized Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me.” Some internet sites are claiming One Direction’s “Midnight Memories” is a blatant rip off.

See for yourself at the end of this post. If you dare.

The Pulse of Radio claims that Def Leppard will not be suing the band, despite what the ever-churning rumor mill’s saying.

Phil Collen, who co-wrote Def Lep’s song, told Billboard the One Direction tune is “very similar in structure” but nothing more.

“It’s all good,” he said.

Hey, if Phil’s convinced there’s nothing fishy, I’ll take that bait. But who knows? A deal could have already been worked out, and we’d never know it.
