Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 – Is Bigger Better?

Released in July 2013, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is a 10.1-inch Android tablet computer running on the Android 4.2.2 “Jelly Bean” operating system and is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

This tablet comes with a built-in 7000mAh battery, which can be used fully charged for up to 9 hours of video or up to 72 hours of music. The display is a 10.1” LCD widescreen carrying a 1280×800 screen resolution. 1 Gigabyte of RAM comes built-in, as does 16 GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot that can add up to 64 GB of extra memory.

The tablet has Wi-Fi capability with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Dual-band support (2.4Ghz, 5GHz), and there is also the possibility of 3G/4G connectivity if the tablet is purchased with a data plan through a cellular service. There is also a 3MP back camera capable of HD video recording and a 1.3MP front camera for chatting purposes. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comes pre-loaded with a variety of Google apps, such as Google Talk video chat, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps. Navigation is also possible with the GPS feature and Google Maps Navigation service, making driving to your destinations easier. For those who like to use PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, or Excel, Polaris Office also comes loaded on the tablet, fully compatible for those file types and allowing for work on-the-go.

There are also multiple “hubs” installed into the tablet to enhance user experience. The Readers Hub gives access to millions of book titles and thousands of magazines and newspapers in multiple languages. There are also features such as zoom, font enlargement, and bookmarks that further enhance the reading experience. On top of this, reading apps such as Kindle, and Nook, among others, are all available through the Google Play store. The Music Hub allows access to millions of songs, and not just the ones you know. There are also radio stations built-in and a recommendation system to allow users to find new music that fits their tastes. The Music Hub also allows users to review, and read reviews, of the music they listen to and/or are interested in listening to, much like iTunes Radio and other internet streaming services.

The Social Hub allows you to have access to many social tools to keep in touch. Multiple email accounts, instant messaging, and social media accounts for, but not limited to, Twitter and Facebook are all manageable through this one portal. For simplified viewing, a Message tab and a Feeds tab are available for reading messages and web feeds in one easy-to-read flow. Samsung’s latest tablet comes with a choice of 7-inch, 10.1-inch, and 8-inch screen size. The 7-inch has a 1.2 GHz processor compared to the 10.1-inch’s 1.6 GHz Dual Core processor or the 8-inch’s 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor. The 8-inch and 10.1-inch’s come with 16 GB internal memory as opposed to the 7-inch’s 8 GB internal memory. Both the 8-inch and 10.1-inch boast a 1280×800 screen resolution, while the 7-inch has a 1024×600 screen resolution. The 8-inch model also boasts a 5MP rear-facing camera, as opposed to the 7-inch model’s 3MP and the 10.1-inch model’s 3.2MP.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is a powerful product with multiple Samsung Hubs that cater to and help improve the user’s experience. It is the most expensive of the Tab 3 line, costing $359.00 on Amazon at the time of writing. Some of the features may be lacking when compared to other models, but the bigger screen size allows for easier viewing, making the device worth its price tag.
