iPhone 5S vs iPhone 5C – Price and Specs Comparison


iPhone 5 is the latest series of smartphones from Apple Inc.

Many people often get confused between the 5S and 5C model of iPhone 5. The 5C is the low-end variant while the 5S is the high-end variant of the iPhone 5 series. Check the specs comparison between these two devices to find out the similarities and differences.


There is no difference in Displays of 5S and 5C iPhone models. Both models of iPhone feature a 4-inch Retina display capable of rendering a resolution of 1136 X 640 pixels. The display has a high pixel density (326 pixels per inch) and high brightness equivalent to 500cm/m2. An oleophobic coating protects the screen from fingerprint smudges. The 4-inch display is capable of displaying characters and multiple languages simultaneously.

Dimensions and weight

The iPhone 5C measures 4.90 (H) by 2.33(W) by 0.35(D) inches and weighs around 132g. The iPhone 5S is slightly smaller, thinner and lighter than 5C model. The 5S measures 4.87(H) by 2.31(W) by 0.30-(D) inches and weighs around 112g.


The 5C model is powered by an A6 chip whereas the 5S model is powered by an A7 processor that is based on 64-bit chip architecture. The 5S model also features a discrete graphics processor known as M7.


There are very few differences in the camera of 5C and 5S models. Both models sport an 8-megapixel rear camera with lens cover made of Sapphire crystal. Features such as IR filter, 5-element lens, face detection, auto focus, and photo geo-tagging are common in iSight camera of both models. The 5S camera has a slightly bigger aperture at f/2.2 while the 5C has an f/2.4 camera aperture (Smaller the f number, bigger is the aperture, allowing more light to pass). Other differences in cameras include LED flash in 5C and TrueTone flash in 5S. The iSight camera in 5S model has an auto image stabilization feature and supports burst mode photography. The 5S model also allows its user to record slow motion video.


The 5S model of iPhone is equipped with a biometric sensor that protects the phone from unauthorized usage. A finger print sensor is fitted right below the home button and invisible to naked eye.


The iPhone 5S and 5C models have similar battery specifications. The phone is equipped with Lithium-ion battery that provides talk time of 10 hours on 3G networks and audio playback of 40 hours or less. The maximum video playback on single recharge is 10 hours.


The 5C model has two variants; the low-end variant has 16 GB internal storage capacity whereas the high-end variant has 32 GB internal storage capacity. The 5S model has three variants. The low-end variant has 16 GB internal storage and mid variant has 32 GB internal storage space and high-end variant has 64 GB of internal storage.


The 16 GB 5C model is available at $99 while the 32 GB model is available at $199. The 16 GB 5S model is priced at $199 while the 32 GB and 64 GB models are priced at $299 and $399 respectively.
