Sony Xperia Z1 Compact vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini – Price and Specs Comparison

The Xperia Z1 Compact is the smaller version of Xperia Z1 while the S4 Mini is a smaller version of the popular Galaxy S4. Let’s take a look at both Compact phones and find out what they offer.
Though a miniaturized version of the popular Xperia Z1, Sony has tried to make Z1 Compact attractive by giving it waterproof and dustproof characteristics. The phone measures 5.0 inches (H) x 2.56 inches (W) x 0.37 inches (D) and weighs approximately 137 grams. The S4 Mini is smaller than Z1 Compact and measures around 4.91 inches (H) x 2.41 inches (W) x 0.35 inches (D) and also lighter at 107 grams.
Z1 Compact and S4 Mini have same sized displays measuring 4.3 inches diagonally and equipped with multitouch features. The 4.3 inches TFT Touchscreen display in Z1 Compact has a pixel density of 342 ppi and maximum resolution 720 x 1280 pixels. Sony has given added protection to Triluminos display by providing a scratch resistant and shatters proof glass covering. Despite having a super AMOLED display, the S4 Mini screen has a lower pixel density of 256 ppi which renders a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The S4 Mini display is protected by Gorilla glass from Corning.
Hardware and Platform
The hardware configuration of Z1 Compact and S4 Mini is quite similar. Both phones feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset from Qualcomm, Krait microprocessor and Adreno GPU. The Z1 Compact is powered by a quad-core microprocessor clocked at 2.2 GHz and a graphics processor Adreno 330. The Z1 Compact runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with plans to upgrade to latest KitKat OS. A dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and Adreno 305 graphics processor powers S4 Mini. The S4 Mini runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS.
The Z1 Compact has some of the best camera features. It is equipped with a 20-megapixel camera with a resolution of 5248 ? 3936 pixels and other camera enhancement features such as Autofocus and LED Flash. The sensor size of the rear camera is around 1/2.3’’ that allows you to take amazing pictures even in dim light conditions. The front camera in Z1 Compact is a 2-megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second. The S4 Mini has an 8-megapixel camera with LED Flash and auto focus. The resolution of the primary camera is around 3264 x 2448 pixels. The secondary camera in S4 Mini is a 1.9 megapixel camera. Camera enhancement features such as Touch focus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization are available in both phone models.
The Z1 Compact has powerful battery than S4 Mini. It has 2300 mAh lithium ion battery capable of powering the phone for maximum 18 hours on 3G network. The S4 Mini has 1900 mAh lithium ion battery providing talk time of 12 hours on 3G network.
If you look at the comparison, the Z1 compact is a far better phone then S4 Mini. It has better camera and battery backup and has equivalent processing power.
