Motorola is now owned by Google and offers both these smartphones, Moto G and Moto X. Here, we will compare the specs and features of the two Android smartphones and see how they differ. The Moto G offers a midrange phone at a reasonable, budget price. However, the Moto X is the flagship phone of the company and therefore, it will certainly cost more as compared to the Moto G.
The Moto X comes at around $620 for the 16GB version whereas the Moto G is available at around $ 200. Therefore, you can actually buy three Moto Gs at the price of one Moto X. Let us see whether the Moto X is really worth the extra price.
Design and Screen
Both the Moto X and the Moto G look very similar in their design. The Moto G comes with a smaller screen and is also thicker and heavier than the Moto X. The Moto G comes with a screen size of 4.5 inches whereas the Moto X is a little bigger at 4.7 inches.
Both the phones come with a resolution of 720p; therefore, the Moto G has a better pixel density as the screen size is a little smaller. The Moto X makes use of the AMOLED screen technology, and the colors are sharp and vibrant whereas the Moto G offers a more natural display.
Hardware and Software
The Moto G has an excellent process with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, a quad-core processor, clocking at a speed of 1.2GHz, combined with a RAM of 1GB. On the other hand, the Moto X comes with a dual-core Snapdragon Pro chip and clocks a little higher at 1.7GHz with a higher RAM of 2GB.
In short, both the devices offer a good performance. The chip of the Moto X is software optimized and contains a natural processor for language as well as a processor for contextual computing.
As for the software, the Moto X as well as the Moto G comes with the Android 4.4 KitKat version. Being owned by Google, you can easily get the latest updates to the software even if they are not shipped with this version. Both the phones run on Android’s vanilla version but there are some differences. The Moto X has some unique features, such as Moto Assist, Quick Capture and Active Display. In addition, it offers a voice recognition feature, capable of learning your voice.
The Moto G and the Moto X do not have options for expandable storage. The Moto G comes with an internal storage of two variants: the 8GB and the 16GB models. As for the Moto X, it is available in double of the above capacities: 16GB and 32GB.
The Moto G comes with a primary camera of 5MP and is able to take very good pictures. It also features a HDR mode for shooting. The Moto X, on the other hand, comes with a camera of 10MP and is really not up to expectations, considering the price of the device. However, it offers good detail in photographs. The Moto X is also able to take good video recording at 1080p resolution as compared to the 720p resolution of the Moto G. The front camera of the Moto X is also better at 2MP resolution as compared to the 1.3MP of the Moto G.
Both the devices do not have a removable battery. The two devices offer almost similar battery performance, usually one day for average use.
The Moto G seems to be punching way above its low price tag. There is a huge difference between the prices of the Moto G and the Moto X. However, there is very little difference between the software and hardware specs of the two devices. This implies that the Moto X is not worth wasting the additional amount of money.
