The HTC One M8 as well as the iPhone 5S comes with an all-metal design. The HTC One M8 weighs 160g, and has dimensions of 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 millimeters. On the other hand, the iPhone 5S weighs less at 112g and has smaller dimensions of 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, being more compact. The HTC One is bigger and offers a bigger screen, whereas the iPhone 5S fits in your hand easily. The HTC One is available in silver as well as grey and rose gold, whereas the iPhone 5S comes in white, gold and in grey.

Screen and Display

The HTC One M8 is a bigger phone with a bigger display of 5 inches, compared to the 4 inches screen of the iPhone 5S. The screen resolution of the HTC One is also bigger at 1920 x 1080p with a pixel density of 441ppi, against the 1136 x 640p of the iPhone 5S with a lower pixel density of 326 ppi. However, though the ppi is smaller in the iPhone 5S, it comes with a Retina display, so there is not much difference in the sharpness of clarity of the images and text display. Both phones offer good screen quality and excellent viewing angles.

Camera Comparison

Both the phones have cameras with larger pixels when compared to the competition and do not concentrate on more number of pixels. The HTC One M8 comes with a 4.1 Megapixel, Ultapixel lens and a sensor of 1/3 inch with f/2.0 aperture. The iPhone 5S comes with an 8 MP resolution and a 1/3 inches sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. The HTC One M8 also has what is known as the Duo camera. The main camera is the Ultrapixel one that takes pictures in the regular manner, whereas the second sensor helps capture information related to depth. Users can, thus, refocus the shots after taking them, moving from one subject to another. The phone also has a two tone Flash, similar to the Tru Tone flash in the iPhone 5S. This produces a more natural light on your images.

The HTC One M8 has a better front camera with a 5 MP camera, whereas the iPhone has a 1.2 MP camera for FaceTime and selfies at a resolution of 1280 x960p, with a 720p HD for video recording.

Processor/Hardware Specs

The HTC One M8 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocking at 2.3 GHz quad core CPU combined with a RAM of 2 GB. The device also has a co processor and a dual band Wi Fi with 11 ac. As for the 5S, it runs on an A7 chip 64 bit, clocked at 1.3 GHz, with a RAM of 1GB, offering future proof features. Both the phones have their own co processor, enabling the sensors to remain switched on for use in the motion launch gestures of the HTC. Both the devices can monitor all the sensors and assess the accelerometer and compass data, without waking up the A7 chip. This way the battery gets conserved for a longer time. It is noted that on paper, the HTC One M8 has better specifications, but both the phones are equally fast and powerful.

Storage

As for storage, the HTC One comes with 16GB, with a 32GB version also available. The iPhone 5S comes in three versions of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and offers 5GB of iCloud space for free.
