The launch of the ‘Pro’ range from Samsung has enabled the South Korean company to challenge the likes of the iPad in proper way.
The company has not been able to do this with its previous models like the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. However, this certainly has a space in the segment and is unlikely to be eating into the market share of Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.
The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is a slightly smaller device due to the 8.4 inch display. Even though it struggles to compete with the 10.1 inch display on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, Samsung ensures that this display has the ability to provide the best possible detail. This 8.4 inch screen comes with a whopping 1600 x 2560 pixels, which means more pixels than the famed retina display technology from Apple. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 may not provide a similar resolution (offers only 1280 x 800 pixels), but the large display makes it ideal for watching movies.
Samsung provides the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 with additional features like the Dolby surround sound enhancement. The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 lacks this feature, but it provides a different version of TouchWiz user interface, which looks more polished, than the previous versions widely employed in Samsung devices. It looks more like a bloated version of the Flipboard app, but it is a refreshing change nonetheless.
The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 has been equipped with the best possible processor and hardware configuration, in order to run this new version of TouchWiz, along with the Android 4.4 operating system. This device runs on a quad core 2.3 GHz processor from snapdragon. Aided by 2 GB of RAM, it is able to handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 may struggle in this aspect due to its dual core 1.6 GHz processor from Intel. It also has lesser RAM – 1 GB. These reductions mean that the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 does not support the latest android, but it does come with the 4.2.2 version.
Despite compromising on the processor aspect, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 does not skimp on features when it comes to connectivity. It comes with the latest versions of standard connectivity options like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It supports dual band Wi-Fi like the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which also has a similar set of connectivity features.
Camera is a substantial differentiating aspect, between the two devices, since the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 uses an eight megapixel camera compared to the 3.15 megapixel camera on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Apart from the huge difference in quality, the list of features is also substantially lower on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. The most notable difference in the features is the full HD video recording capability that is present in the Tab Pro 8.4.
The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 costs around $240, compared to the price of $190, commanded by the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.
