The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD are two popular tablets that have been released, among the vast selection of tablets available.

The Amazon Kindle is available at a much lower price than the Samsung Galaxy tablet. Verdict: With a slightly higher clocking frequency, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet operates slightly faster than the Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablet. However, for all practical purposes, both tablets operate at the same speed and are at par. So if speed is one of the criteria you are looking for in a tablet, neither of the two tablets will disappoint you.


Both the Amazon Kindle and the Samsung Galaxy tablets run on the Android operating system. While the Amazon Kindle operates on Ice Cream Sandwich, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 functions using Jelly Bean, a later version of Android operating system. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy tablet incorporates the TouchWiz UI which assists in screen customization.

Verdict: The TouchWiz UI feature allows you to customize the screen of your tablet according to your convenience. This aspect makes it worth considering the Samsung Galaxy tablet over the Amazon Kindle HD.

Phone Functionality

The Samsung Galaxy tablet allows you to use it as both an organizer, as well as a smartphone, to make and/or receive calls and send or receive messages in times of emergency. On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle tablet cannot be used as a phone.

Verdict: If you want a tablet that you can also use as a phone, then the Samsung Galaxy tablet with this additional phone functionality is without doubt a good choice.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets comprise a non-removable battery each. While the Samsung Galaxy tablet uses a 6,800 mAh lithium polymer battery, the Amazon Kindle tablet features a 4,400 mAh lithium ion battery.

Verdict: Although the Amazon Kindle tablet consists of a lesser capacity battery, it has a fairly better battery life when compared to the Samsung Galaxy tablet. Thus, when both tablets are fully charged, you can use the Amazon tablet for a slightly longer period of time.

Internal Storage and Expandable Memory

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet encompasses 16GB ROM as internal storage and also provision for expanding memory up to 64GB. On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablet comes in two variations of internal storage memory – 16GB and 32GB. However, there is no scope for expanding the memory externally.

Verdict: With the ability to provide more storage than the Amazon Kindle tablet, the Samsung Galaxy tablet is a much better choice for storing large capacity files.
