Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Vs Pro 2 – Specs, Features And Prices Comparison
Microsoft first made a tablet back in 2012, and after that, Microsoft has been keeping its promise of creating better tablets. With the release of the Surface tablet series, users had been promised a 2-in-1 experience and that is exactly what they expected. This has, however, proven to be a challenging quest for Microsoft.
The Surface Pro 2 came with improvements that were well needed, but that alone was not enough. This is not yet over and users are waiting for more improvements with the announcement of the Surface Pro 3. The Surface Pro 3 has quite a few upgrades compared to the Surface Pro 3. However, there are also a few downgrades that not many people notice. So, is the Surface Pro 2 still the best there is or has it been overtaken by the Surface Pro 3? Here is a comparison.
The Surface Pro 2 is easy to hold as it is 13.4mm thick and has a 10.6 inch display. It is also a light weight tablet at only 906 grams. Even though these figures cannot be compared to other tablets, it is a much better tablet when you compare it with the iPad Air.
As for the Surface Pro 3, it is slightly thicker and larger compared to the Pro 2. It has a 12 inch display, is 9.1mm thick and weighs 800 grams. Both devices use clear-type technology. Even so, the Pro 3 is more fun to use owing to its 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, while the Pro 2 has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.
The Pro 2 has 10-point touch sensitivity whereas the Pro 3 uses the newest technology which supports multiple touches and does not have any restrictions. The Pro 3 also has 3:2 aspect ratio, while the Pro 2 features a 16:9 aspect ratio. In this case, if you are watching a movie, you would have a better experience with the 16:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, a bigger resolution completely overrides this factor, thus making the Pro 3 a more suitable option. Microsoft has, furthermore, supported this fact by explaining that the new ratio in the Pro 3 helps it show more information on-screen.
Memory and Processor
The Pro 2 comes with several storage options – 512GB, 256GB, 64GB and 32GB. All options are supported by 8GB/4GB RAM. Likewise, the Pro 3 also has the same storage capacity and RAM variations.
The Pro 2 comes with an Intel i5 processor that makes it less flexible. The Pro 3 comes in various processor iterations – the i7, i5 and i3. Each processor has been specially designed to give a more flexible performance and pricing.
Surface Pro 2 is available at $320 for the 6GB version. The 64GB version of the Pro 3 comes with a price tag of about $750. The other memory iterations of each tablet version come at a lower price depending on the size.
