Apple iPad Mini 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 – The Battle Of The Baby Tablets
In anticipation of the fresh debuting iPad Mini 3, we thought of comparing it to another device that falls in the same size category, which is the smallest tablet category. Both the Mini 3 and the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 measure more than a smartphone, but when compared to full-sized tablets, it is more observable how small they are. The iPad Mini 2 is practically the iPad Mini with a Retina Display. In that same line, the iPad Mini 3 is pretty much just an iPad Mini 2 with slim to none changes. Let’s see how the new Apple mini-tablet does against the Galaxy S Tab 8.4
With 7.9 x 5.3 x 0.29 inches and 11.6 ounces in weight, the iPad Mini 3 Is identical to the Mini 2 in terms of size. The tablet is light and slim, but the Tab S 8.4 beats it to it, with only 10.4 ounces and a measurement of 0.26 inches in width.
The Retina Display with the 2048 x 1536 resolution which is featured on the iPad Mini 3 offers a very good image quality, while the Tab S 8.4 comes with not only a larger display that measures 8.4 inches, but also features a bigger resolution of 2560 x 1600. The Samsung device offers an overall better user experience on the display level, with more viewing angles and extreme colors.
When it comes to cameras, the battle goes on between the 5 MP shooter of the iPad Mini 3 and the 8 MP lens of the Galaxy Tab. While the Samsung has more MP, the Mini 3 follows in the Mini 2’s footsteps and comes with a very good camera that captures very accurate photos.
Probably the only upgrade notable on the Mini 3 from the Mini 2 is the implementation of Apple’s Touch ID technology. This means that there will be a fingerprint scanner on the front of the device. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 also features a fingerprint scanner, but upon testing it has proven itself less reliable than Apple’s Touch ID.
In the end, the Tab S 8.4 didn’t prove a lot different from the Mini 3, while the Mini 3 almost proved identical to the iPad Mini 2 predecessor. Both devices come with some pretty good features, including the fingerprint scanners, and are available at the same starting price of $394.
