How to Setup the Latest iOS 8 Update to Your iPhone
The latest version of Apple’s operating system for smartphones and tablets is the iOS 8.1, which fixes some of the bugs and fixes in the previous iOS 8.0.2. The update also brings several new features. Here’s how you can install it.
Install New Update via Wi-Fi Connection
This is the simplest and easiest way to update your device. You need to plug the device to a power source, since the update might take time and you do not want your device running out of power in the middle of installation. Steps include the following:
- Go to settings, then general, and software update
- Click on Download and Install. This will download the update. The storage required depends on your device, but it might go up to 2 GB.
- Once the download is complete, click the install button. You can also choose to install the update later. If you have a passcode for your handset, you are required to enter it.
Make Room for Update
Before you start updating your device, you need to make sure you’ve backed up everything, and you have enough storage to install the update. You can back up your files via either iTunes or iCloud.
Photos, videos and applications tend to eat a lot of space. To create back up via iCloud, you need to go to settings, iCloud, then storage and backup, and click on the button stating “back up now.” You can also create storage/backup your device using iTunes and your Macbook.
You need to plug in and connect your device to Macbook, then choose it from the menu on iTunes. Click on back up now. If your devices are connected, your data will be saved on the hard disk of your computer.
Update Via iTunes and Macbook
You need to install the latest version of iTunes on your computer to get started. Plug in the iPhone and connect it your Macbook. Select the device in iTunes.
Go to the summary panel, and click on “check for update.” Once you find the update, click on “download and update.” Once the update is complete, your device will restart automatically.
Start Using the Device
When the device restarts after the update, you will be asked to enter your iCloud details. Next step is to set security questions. After you are done with those two steps, you can use your device.
Before you start upgrading, check if your phone is eligible for the new update. At the moment, the following devices are eligible for iOS 8 update: iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPad Air and iPad mini.
