Moto G vs Desire 516 vs BlackBerry Z3 – Top Specifications and Price Comparison
The mid-range sector mustn’t be neglected, because not everybody can afford to spend 500-800 dollars on a high end smartphone. So, Motorola, HTC and Blackberry are some of the companies that released feature-rich phones at a good price and here are three models that might interest you.
Displays and sizes
The Moto G has the smallest screen between the three smartphones, measuring 4.5inches (IPS LCD), but it supports the highest resolution of 720×1280 pixels (326ppi), leaving the two 5inches displays behind. Both the Desire 516 and the Blackberry Z3 share the same screen resolution of 540×960 pixels with 220ppi, so we can’t really tell if there’s a difference between them.
Anyway, the Moto G is thicker than its rivals, measuring 11.6mm, being followed by the Desire 516 with a thickness of 9.7mm and the Blackberry handset measures 9.3mm. The last two devices have the same length of 140mm, but the HTC device is 4grams lighter, weighting 160grams.
Hardware and OS
Both the Moto G and the Desire 516 are powered by a quad core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, but the Motorola handset is using a newer Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset with Adreno 305 graphics, while the HTC device is settling for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with Adreno 302 GPU. As for the Blackberry Z3, it has the same chipset and GPU as the Moto G, but it uses a weaker dual core 1.2 GHz Krait 200 processor.
The RAM capacity is the same on the Moto G and the Desire 516 – 1GB, but the HTC device offers the smallest internal memory – 4GB, which thankfully it can be increased up to 32GB. The Moto G, on the other hand, comes in variants of 8 and 16GB, but the phone lacks a microSD card slot. The Blackberry Z3 has 1.5GB of RAM and an internal memory of 8GB, also expandable up to 32GB.
The Moto G came with Android v4.3, which was upgraded to v4.4.4 (KitKat), and soon will get the v5.0 (Lollipop) update. The Desire 516 still operates on v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and the Blackberry Z3 runs on company’s OS – BlackBerry 10.2.1.
All three devices have rear cameras of 5MP with not so many features. The front cameras are 1.3MP (Moto G), 2MP (Desire 516) and 1.1MP (Blackberry Z3). While the Moto G and Desire 516 can record videos at 720p@30fps, the Blackberry device record at 1080p.
The Blackberry Z3 has the battery with the biggest capacity – 2500mAh, which allows you to talk 15 hours and a half on the phone. It’s followed by the Moto G with a 2070 mAh battery which claims to deliver 24 hours of talktime, and likewise the Blackberry device, the Moto G has a non-removable battery. The Desire 516 is settling for a 1950 mAh battery with 9 hours of talktime.
On Amazon, the Moto G 8GB costs 160 dollars and the 16GB variant is 20 dollars more expensive. The Desire 516 costs around 168 dollars and the Blackberry Z3 is more expensive than all three devices, costing 220 dollars.
