3

The smartphone market was earlier divided into different segments like budget smartphones which offered decent smartphone experience but lacked on some important parameters.

On the other hand there were these performance devices which had everything that technology had to offer but they were out of reach of most of the people. But it all changed last year when Motorola launched the Moto G and created a bridge between these segments. This device offered the latest technology to customers at a pocket friendly price.

After the huge success of its device, Motorola recently unveiled the 2nd generation Moto G loaded with latest technology to ensure that it remains the best budget smartphone available in the market.

Here is a deeper look into this device.

Design:

Moto G looks very similar to its predecessor, but that is not at all a bad thing. It retains its simple design, clean looks and sturdy build quality. The phone has curved edges which make it look more smooth rather than edgy, despite the big screen, the phone is easy to hold and operate with single hand. The back panel is more accentuated and has a prominent Motorola sign on it which adds a nice touch to the phones character.

Screen:

The screen on this device has got bigger than the previous generation device. This phone features a 5 inches IPS LCD display which has a 720p resolution. The increase in screen size while keeping the resolution same has taken a toll on the pixel density which stands a little low at 294 PPI. The screen still offers sharp contrast and bright colours and decrease in pixel density is not evident. Viewing contents like pictures, videos or reading texts is a nice experience on this device.

Camera:

The biggest upgrade on this latest phone is in the camera department. This phone receives a 8 megapixel sensor as compared to the previous generation’s 5 megapixel shooter. Although it is not an exceptional camera, the images captured by these are pretty nice specially those taken in HDR mode, equipped with a LED flash the phone is capable of capturing nice images even in low light conditions. A secondary 2 megapixel camera is also provided for video call purpose.

Performance:

There is no change in the performance of this phone as this device runs on the same hardware used in previous generation device. The phone is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core snapdragon 400 processor which is coupled with 1GB of RAM. Although 2GB RAM would have been a pleasant surprise on this new device, but 1 GB RAM is enough to take care of all your multitasking needs.

The phone runs smoothly thanks to the stock android version which does not cause excessive load on the processor. To keep this device running throughout the day, Motorola has installed a 2070 mAh battery on this phone.

Verdict:

The biggest factor affecting a budget smartphone is its price and Motorola has struck the right chord by pricing this device at a reasonable price of 180 USD. At this price, this phone is loaded with features, has a big screen and is durable enough to last for a long time.
