Google has announced that their Nexus devices will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop soon, and this can already happen, as the files got released. However, it will take some time until all the Nexus device owners will receive the over the air (OTA) update.
If you can’t wait any longer, you can just download the Factory image, but this will require you to take several other steps in order to complete the update process. First of all, they will have to flash the system manually; this is why they will also need to backup all the important files and data.

At the same time Google has come with a guide that will help users to update from KitKat to Lollipop without using the OTA update. However, Google advises the inexperienced users to just wait for an OTA update.
The Android Lollipop Factory Image is also available for Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10. The announcement about the release was shared by Google on their Twitter account, saying that Android Lollipop rollout has already started and it will be soon available on most Nexus devices. They also added “Dessert is served” in that tweet.
If you are not yet familiar with what a Factory Image means, it’s somehow like an archive or to be more explicit, like an .iso file with a Windows OS in it. So, by using this file you can install Android 5.0 Lollipop OS on your device. However, if you are not that experienced in installing OS on mobile device, you can just wait for an OTA update, which should come to all users in the near future.
We remind you that Android 5.0 Lollipop got released on November 3 and last week, on November 12, most of the Nexus owners got an OTA release. The OTA update may take quite a while to happen on all Nexus owners, as the OTA update depends on the career also.
