You’ll rarely see a person walking around and talking on a 7 inch device.
However, the reality is that there is a market for 7 inch tablets that can also be operated as a handset. The latest device from Acer, the Acer Iconia Talk S is such a device. The latest term for such devices is the “tabphones” and Acer is delivering quality handset for a low price.
Design and Display
The Acer Iconia Talk S is a 7 inch screen device, with a decent resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The company uses a ‘Zero Air Gap’, which is a design principle that delivers sharper, crisper and brighter picture when exposed to sunlight. The device also comes with a special, anti fingerprint coating. The coating on the display should reduce smears and marks from fingerprints on the display.
Hardware and Operating System
The Acer Iconia Talk S is powered by a 64-bit, Snapdragon 410 quad core processor. Users get 16 GB to store pictures, videos, applications and games, but can further expand the memory up to 128 GB with the use of a microSD card. With 1 GB RAM, the Acer Iconia Talk S is decently suited to fit the needs of its users. The handset runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat from the box. It should get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon. The device supports 4G LTE connections, and comes with dual SIM support as well.
Not the biggest asset of the device, the rear facing camera is a 5-MP sensor without LED flash. On the front, for Skype video calls and selfie pictures, the device offers a 2-MP shooter.
Under the hood, the handset packs a 3780 mAh battery. The lifespan of the battery is not known, but the 64-bit chipset should help a bit and extend the lifespan of the battery.
The Acer Iconia S costs $250. With the specs it offers, it is a decent 7 inch handset.
