Nokia Lumia 1520 vs. iPhone 5S – Helping you Make an Informed Decision
Both the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the iPhone 5S were released towards the end of 2013 and are touchscreen smartphones.
However, you need to make a careful decision regarding which phone to buy in order to truly enjoy the various features in the two phones. You must consider the price, the performance and other aspects. Both the phones are flagship devices of their companies and come with excellent hardware.
The Lumia 1520 has a 6-inch capacitive touchscreen, an IPS, LCD, screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 p. On the other hand, Apple’s iPhone 5S has a smaller screen of 4 inches, with LED IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen backlit technology. It is capable of rendering a resolution of 640 x 1136 p. The dimensions of the Lumia 1520 are bigger at 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm, whereas the dimensions of the iPhone 5S are smaller at 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm. The Lumia 1520 is also heavier at 209g compared to the lighter 112g of the iPhone 5S.
A quad core, krait 400 Processor, 2.2 GHz and a chipset of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 power the Lumia 1520. The internal memory of the Lumia 1520 is 32 GB, but this can be expanded to a maximum of 64 GB, with the use of a microSD card. On the other hand, the iPhone 5S is powered by dual core Cyclone Processor of 1.3 GHz and comes with an Apple A7 chip. The phone is available in variants of internal memory, namely, 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB. However, there is no additional SD card for extra memory.
The iPhones 5S is run on the OS of Apple’s iOS 7 and comes with 1 GB RAM, whereas the Lumia 1520 is run on the operating system of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS and has a bigger RAM of 2 GB.
The Lumia 1520 comes with an excellent primary camera of 20-MP and boasts of optics from Carl Zeiss. It also has other features, such as OIS or optical image stabilization, an autofocus and offers a dual LED flash feature. As for the iPhone 5S, it has a primary camera of 8-MP resolution with auto focus and also sports a dual LED flash feature. With respect to the secondary or front camera, both the devices come with the same 1.2-MP resolution.
As for the Lumia 2520, it has a Li-ion battery of 3400 mAh and is not removable. It enables a talk time of nearly half an hour with 3G and in case of listening to music, it allows the use of about 120 hours. In case of the iPhone 5S, it also has a non-removable battery of Li-Po, with a lower mAh of 1560. It offers a talk time of 10 hours for 3G use and 40 hours in case of playing music.
Better Browsing in Lumia 1520
It seems that the Nokia Lumia 1520 is slightly better than the iPhone 5S as far as browsing is concerned. The Lumia 1520 is a little faster at loading web pages and it does this immediately upon clicking, whereas the Safari browser in Apples iPhone 5S is a little slower by a few seconds.
Where Apple Scores
The iPhone is better in some aspects, as it is substantially lighter and is thinner and narrower. The internal storage is also better. In addition, the iPhone 5S comes with a fingerprint scanner and Air Play features. It is smaller and more compact to hold in the hand, making it more comfortable for prolonged use.
If you were looking for a high end, premium, compact phone, the iPhone 5S would be the way to go. However, if you were looking for a bigger phone with a bigger screen, the Nokia Lumia 1520 would be a better option.
