After you will follow the steps below, you will be able to see how Android Lollipop looks like and use it on your PC. Keep in mind that this is an emulator and it has all the features and functions that will have on a smartphone.

Here is everything you need to know about Android 5.0 Lollipop and how to install it on your PC

You will firstly need SDK Manager, as you will download the Android Lollipop and other tools along with it.

Installing Android 5.0 on your PC

The installation will have two steps, which are: downloading the files that you will need and creating the emulator.

Installing the necessary files

Download the zip Android SDK file on your computer (if you run Windows on 32bit get the 32bit variant, if you have Windows on 64bit get the 64bit variant). After that, extract the zip file with a program such as WinRaR, choose a location and extract it. We suggest you to use a location where it will be easy to access.

Open the SDK Manager and the android-sdk folder and wait for it to load. Deselect everything and select the Android SDK Platform-tools and all the options that are in the Android 5.0 (API 21) section. After that, click on “install packages”, accept and confirm the installation. You will notice that it will start downloading and installing the program.

Creating the Android Lollipop emulator

After the installation is complete, go to Android-SDK folder and open AVD Manager Application and select the “create” button. You will then notice a new window opening, where you will be able to set the parameters of the emulator. Here is what you will insert when that window opens:

– AVD Name: here you will have to enter the name of the emulator, without using spaces (for example EmulatorLollipop)
– Device: select a preset template, we recommend you to pick the Nexus 5 or newer.
– Target: this is the version you want to be installed, which is Android 5.0 – API Level 21
– CPU: here you will select “ARM”
– Skn: select “Skin with dynamic hardware controls”
– RAM: for RAM we recommend you to use either 512 or 1024 (keep in mind that the RAM memory will be taken from your PC, so in case you don’t have too much RAM, select 512)

The rest you can leave at default value and click OK.

You will now notice that the new emulator is in the AVD Manager list. To start it, select it and click “Start”, followed by “Launch”. Keep in mind that the first start will take a few minutes as it will install the Android 5.0 Lollipop. To select a size, go to Launch Options and select “Scale to display real size” and set it as your preferred size.

Congrats! You have now installed Android 5.0 Lollipop emulator on your PC. You will be able to see the new UI and features right from your PC, before you get the new OS on your mobile device.
