iPhone 5S vs BlackBerry Z10 – Best Specs and Features Compared

1

Blackberry was kind of lazy this year and didn’t release many smartphones and didn’t fully concentrate on the ones that saw the sun light. However, the Z10 is the company’s first smartphone that doesn’t feature any physical or capacitive buttons, but it’s a disappointment in terms of internal specs. The iPhone 5S is like any other Apple device: sleek, powerful and expensive.

Designs

The Z10 has a flat back with a rectangular shape, the edges are straight and the corners are rounded. The material that Blackberry used for the removable shell is plastic, and has a rubbery texture for a better gripability. Its dimensions are 130×65.6×9 mm and the device has a weight of 137.5grams, being thicker and heavier than the iPhone 5S, whose dimensions are 123.8×58.6×7.6 mm and which weights 112grams. We have a vague hunch that the aluminum uni-body design of the Apple smartphone will impress you more, but don’t get fulled by the premium look. In time, you’ll see that the metal back will be full of fine scratches, so you’ll better buy a cover for it.

Displays

The iPhone 5S is the last Apple device with a 4inches, at least until now, in case the company doesn’t change its mind and released another iPhone with the same screen size in 2015. So, the screen on the iPhone 5S is LED-backlit IPS LCD, with a resolution of 640×1136 pixels and 326ppi, while the Z10 has a 4.2inches display whose resolution is slightly higher at 768×1280 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 355ppi. These mid-tier smartphones are not recommendable for those who like to watch movies or play the latest games, because their screens aren’t capable of giving the same viewing experience as a phablet.

Hardware and OS

The iPhone 5S was the first Apple smartphone with a 64-bit based A7 chipset that supports a dual core 1.3GHz Cyclone processor that teams up with a PowerVR G6430 GPU and 1GB of RAM, and this combination is a killer. The phone runs fast and without lags. However, the thing that might frustrate you is the internal memory, which can’t be expanded, so you’ll be forced to limit the number of applications on the phone with the smallest memory capacity (16GB). The other two variants are 32 and 64GB. The phone came out of the factory loaded with iOS 7 and now you can enjoy the new experience offered by the iOS 8.1.1 version.

The BlackBerry Z10 uses a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon dual core 1.5 GHz Krait processor with Adreno 225 graphics and 2GB of RAM, it runs on BlackBerry 10 OS (upgradable to v10.2.1) and according to the Geekbench 2 test, the phone obtained a score of 1725. In the SunSpider JavaScript test, it scored 1710ms, which is an average result.

Cameras

Both smartphones take photos with rear cameras with the same resolution – 8MP, but they have a few features in common such as autofocus, HDR, face detection and geo tagging, having the same video recording capabilities at 1080p@30fps, but the iPhone 5S offers dual-LED flash, which is more efficient than the single LED flash from the back of its opponent. The Z10 has a particular feature named Time Shift which takes more snaps and you get to adjust the entire image or someone’s face. The front camera on this device is 2MP, while the iPhone 5S has a 1.2MP secondary snapper.

Batteries

The iPhone 5S with its non-removable 1560mAh battery can last 250 hours in stand by mode, and it provides 10 hours of talktime. The Blackberry Z10 has the same lifebattery, but the capacity is higher at 1800 mAh, and the unit is removable.

Prices

The price for the iPhone 5S 16GB is 570 dollars, the 32GB variant costs 638 dollars and the 64GB variant is 66 dollars more expensive. The Blackberry is way cheaper at 203 dollars. Both devices are available on Amazon.
