It seems like Gionee started a battle between Chinese manufacturers of smartphones.
After the Elife S5 was named the slimmest smartphone in the world, manufacturers in China raced to beat it. First, we had the Oppo R5 which was 4.85mm thick, and now, Vivo is releasing the Vivo X5 Max with thickness of just 4.75mm. However, the Vivo X5 Max is a lot more than the world’s slimmest smartphone.
Design and Display
The Vivo X5 Max is as sleek as a device can be. One difference with the Oppo R5 is that the Vivo X5 Max has a 3.5mm headphone jack. How the company managed to fit the headphone jack is unknown. The device weighs just 146 grams, making it very easy to hold in the hand, despite the size of 5.5 inches. For the display, we are looking at a 5.5 inch screen display, with full HD 1080p resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels).
Hardware and Operating System
It seems like Chinese manufacturers prefer an octa core processor, and the Vivo X5 Max continues the trend. The device has an octa core processor under the hood, with clocking speed set at 1.7, and RAM set at 2 GB. Initially, the Vivo X5 Max will run on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but should get an update to the latest OS from Google. The handset also comes with LTE support.
As with many other new handsets that are designed for the younger generation, the Vivo X5 Max comes with a selfie camera on the front. A 5-MP sensor is enough to take some fun and creative selfie pictures, and on the back, the device comes with a 13-MP camera.
Price and Release Date
The price is unknown, but we are sure to find out soon. The release date for the slimmest smartphone in the world is set for December 10.
