iPhone 6 Plus vs Ascend Mate 7 – Which Phablet Is More Powerful?
It seems that more and more phone users are leaving behind their mid-tier devices and switch to phablets. Apple entered this market in 2014, with the iPhone 6 Plus, a kind of taller iPhone 6, with the same hardware components, but with a larger screen that supports a higher resolution. The Ascend Mate 7 has a similar physical size as Apple’s phone, but it features a bigger screen.
Huawei Ascend Mate 7
As we were saying, the Ascend Mate 7 has a larger screen, but its name might fool you. No, it’s not a tablet with a 7inches display, in reality it’s a phablet with a 6inches IPS LCD display, whose resolution goes up to 1920x1080pixels, and gives a pixel density of 368ppi. Considering that its dimensions are 157x81x7.9mm, this means that the front panel has a screen that occupies 83% of its surface, rivaling with the LG G3. The phone weights 185 grams, it has an aluminum construction and elegant beveled edges, being slightly thicker than the iPhone 6 Plus, featuring a flat back with rounded corners and likewise the Apple phablet, it has two strips at the top and at the bottom, but they’re much thinner. The front panel resembles HTC’s One series.
In terms of hardware performance, you’ll be very satisfied with how the phone runs with a HiSilicon Kirin 925 octa core processor, developed by the company, consisting of a quad core 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 CPU and a quad core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, which pair with a Mali-T628 GPU and 2GB of RAM (16GB of storage) or 3GB of RAM (32GB of storage). Unlike the iPhone 6 Plus, the device supports a microSD card slot, and you can expand the memory capacity up to 128GB.
The rear camera on this device is 16MP and the Sony Xmor BSI sensor is capable of taking great photos, but there aren’t many features on this device that are worth mentioning. The front camera is advanced, having a resolution of 5MP.
The battery is gigantic at 4100 mAh, being non-removable and with a duration of lifespan in stand by of 648 hours. The device runs on Android 4.4 Kit Kat skinned by the company’s EMUI UI.
Apple iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone 6 Plus also has an aluminum casing, but features a thickness of only 7.1mm, and has a length of 158mm. The Retina HD display (LED-backlit IPS LCD) has the same resolution of 1080p, but it’s sized at 5.5inches and supports a higher pixel density of 401ppi. The images are brighter, crisper, the colors are more vivid and this makes the iPhone 6 Plus a winner. The device has curvier edges and corners, but although it feels solid in hand, the phone can bend if using physical force.
The phablet runs initially on iOS8, but Apple released the iOS 8.1.1 update, which fixed many glitches. The new Apple A8 chipset is paired with a dual core 1.4GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) processor, it has M8 co-processor and PowerVR GX6450 quad-core graphics, and it houses 1GB of RAM. Its internal memories come in three variants and can’t be expanded, so you’re stuck with 16, 64 or 128GB.
The iPhone 6 Plus sports an 8MP rear camera with faster autofocus, a f/2.2 aperture, True Tone Flash has 5 piece lens that feature a hybrid IR filter. The video capture is at 1080p@60fps, and the device is able to shoot slo-mo videos.
The battery is ok at 2,915mAh, being capable to provide one day of talktime.
