Apple and Samsung work on two different strategies. Samsung seeks to provide every segment of the society with their products, whereas, Apple aims to gain people’s attention by producing exclusive products.
After initial hiccups, Samsung gained recognition in the tablet market.
On the other hand, Apple has been reigning supreme in the tablet world. The state of the art products released by Apple have been much liked by its users. The iPad Mini 2 comes all guns blazing in the tablet arena with its Retina Display technology against the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 from the South Korean giant.
Design and Handling
Apple iPad Mini 2 resembles the iPad Mini largely. Even the measurements are similar. However, the major difference lies in the display segment. The iPad Mini 2 offers superior design as compared to its counterparts.
In opposition, Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 incorporates standard Samsung design. Nevertheless, few changes such as inclusion of Nature UX, makes it different from other siblings. The overall appearance in hardware segment is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S3.
Apple Mini 2 comprises an enormous 7.9-inch display encompassing IPS LCD along with Retina Display technology. The screen caters improved resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels resulting in higher 324-pixels per inch of pixel density. The display is protected by oleophobic coating.
In comparison, the Samsung tablet comprises even bigger 10.1-inch LCD display comes with 16:10 aspect ratio. However, a lower resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels results in average pixel density of 149-ppi. It provides comparable display features as Tab 2 10.1. With significantly brighter whites and relatively lower blacks, the tablet produces fine contrast ratio overall.
The iPad Mini 2 runs on iOS 7, upgradable to the improved iOS 7.1.2. The operating system can be further upgraded to the most recent iOS 8.1.3.
In opposition, Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 functions on the Android based v4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system. The Company owned TouchWiz UI works efficiently with its Android operating system. Lower versions of Galaxy Tab 3 offer similar combinations. The TouchWiz user interface has improved the Jelly Bean operating system offering a feature rich experience.
An A7 chipset from Apple along with the Cyclone based dual core processor; set at top 1.3GHz speed powers the Apple second-generation Mini tablet. In addition, a PowerVR G6430 GPU and 1GB DDR3 RAM ensures proper functioning of the iPad Mini 2.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 has an Intel Atom Z2560 chipset, which accompanies a dual-core processor. The cores run competently at top velocity of 1.6GHz. Moreover, a PowerVR make SGX544MP2 GPU and 1GB of RAM offers superior tablet experience.
Memory and Battery
The Apple iPad Mini 2 comes with a range of internal memory options ranging from 16GB to 128GB. Meanwhile, Tab 3 10.1 also offers similar 16GB and 32GB internal storage capacity models. The Mini 2 lacks external memory option, whereas, Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 has an expandable memory option up to 64GB.
The iPad Mini 2 encloses a non-removable Li-Po battery with bigger 6470-mAh capacity. Meanwhile, the Tab 3 10.1 encloses a similar battery unit, but with an even bigger 6800-mAh capacity.
